Welcome to my summer in the city. New York City, to be exact. Even though I’m working that 9 to 5 life every day I’m still making time to explore and most importantly; eat! Today I’m going to be sharing with you my personal NYC best eats (so far).
Molly’s Cupcakes– Their cupcake filling is amazing. Just try it. I recommend the Birthday Cake and Salted Caramel (pictured above).
Amelie Wine Bar– This place is a taste of Paris. Even all the waiters are French! It has a great atmosphere, plus their happy hour is a great deal, with three small glasses of wine for $13 (your choice). I recommend going early in the evening because they get crowded very quickly.
The Grey Dog – Their brunch is a delicious deal, but for lunch their sandwiches and fries are also on point.
Lafayette Grand Cafe and Bakery– Their signature chocolate banana coconut croissant is perfect for breakfast on a Sunday morning. This is also the magical place where I met Leandra Medine of Man Repeller.
Maison Kayser– This is a chain restaurant, but it reminds me of the French pastries I lived off of last summer. I recommend the plie au chocolat paired with an iced chocolate (one of the best drinks I’ve ever tasted).
Philip Marie Restaurant– It’s time for brunch! Unlimited mimosas with your choice of entree AND coffee for 23$? Yes please! Their croissant French toast is to die for.
The Doughnut Plant– These will be the best donuts you will ever have in your entire life. You MUST get the creme brulee doughnut seed. You’re welcome.
And as an added bonus, here are the places that I wasn’t that impressed with:
Big Gay Ice Cream– Everyone seems to LOVE it for some reason, and there’s always a line out the door. But for me, I got the infamous Salty Pimp and it honestly just tasted like overpriced Dairy Queen.
Milk Bar– This place is all over Instagram. I tried the traditional cereal milk soft serve with the crunches, which was okay but not amazing or anything.
Umami Burger– This restaurant’s signature ketchup made all my burger and fries taste weird. I’m not a happy camper when I can’t enjoy my french fries.
Overall food lesson learned so far: Stay away from those places that “everyone” loves and “everyone” goes to, a lot of these places we learned from recommendations from friends or from the Cooking Channel (I have not been let down yet!).
