Read with Tracie Marie Please Vol. 6

So many books…so little time! I’m bringing you the next round of books I’ve been reading lately, with some YA mystery and fantasy series, a new classic that everyone is talking about, and of course my usual YA romance magic.  Let’s read together!

“If one of us goes down for this, it’ll be as bad as all of us going down for this…We can’t let that happen.”

This is Our Story by Ashley Elston

5 out of 5 Stars

Recommend? Yes! I couldn’t put this book down and I loved guessing who the killer was.

“And not after, when we’re clinging to each other like the world just fell apart and is slowly clicking back together, piece by piece, breath by breath . . . heartbeat by beautiful heartbeat.”

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

5 out of 5 Stars

Recommend? Yes! The perfect summer read. It’s like a quirky modern version of the movie You’ve Got Mail.

“But who can remember pain, once it’s over? All that remains of it is a shadow, not in the mind even, in the flesh. Pain marks you, but too deep to see. Out of sight, out of mind.”

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

4 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Yes, a really intriguing read for fans of George Orwell’s 1984. Though the ending was a bit abrupt for me.

“Don’t confuse being popular with being interesting”

The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett by Chelsea Sedoti

3 out of 5 stars

Recommend? No, this book was not what I expected. I expected a cool Veronica Mars worthy mystery and instead was met with a bizarre werewolf investigation paired with some hippies.

“She leans over our table and turns the sign in the window so that it says CLOSED on the outside. But on our side, perfectly positioned between Mabel’s place and mine, it says OPEN. If this were a short story, it would mean something.”

We Are Okay by Nina LaCour

5 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Yes! I read this book in less than 24 hours – I literally could not put it down! Plus it takes places in an empty college dorm during winter break.

“The gods rule us still. They have come down from the stars. And they are no longer kind.”

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

5 out of 5 star

Recommend? YES! This book continued to surprise me chapter by chapter, and I never saw any of the twists and turns coming. This was totally worth all the hype.

“No one is born evil, just like no one is born alone. They become that way, through choice and circumstance.”

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

5 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Of course! This sequel to Red Queen wasn’t as good as the first book, but I still am totally obsessed with this series.

“But in the end, fighting for a love that was already gone felt like trying to live in the ruins of a lost city.”

The Paris Wife by Paula McLain

3 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Eh. I had no idea that Ernest Hemingway was such a jerk. This book was a times shocking and very good and at other times totally dull. I agree with the New York Times review of this book (you can read it here).

“People see what they wish to see. And in most cases, what they are told that they see.”

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

5 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Yes. I love the beautiful world this book was, full of magic and curious characters. Definitely a good choice for fans of the Harry Potter series.
