Read with Tracie Marie Please Vol. 9

So many books…so little time. Let’s get you caught up in everything that I’ve been reading lately.

“Letting go is not forgetting. It’s opening your eyes to the good that grew from the bad, the life that blooms from decay.”

A Million Junes by Emily Henry

5 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Yes! Such a great mystical Hatfield and McCoys kind of romance.

“Some people are nice and if you talk to them properly, they can be even nicer.”

Brooklyn by Colm Tóibín

3 out of 5 stars

Recommend? So I actually watched the movie first, and in this case, the movie was way better. Go watch it.

“She was a dangerous, dangerous girl. A plague. A Mountain of Adamant who tore the iron from ships, sinking them to their watery graves without a second thought. With a mere smile and a wrinkle of her nose.”

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh

3 out of 5 stars

Recommend? This book was good, but I wasn’t too enthralled with it and I don’t know if I’ll read the sequel or not.

“I suppose honor can mean whatever we twist it to mean.”

Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts

3 out of 5 stars

Recommend? I must be tired of more kings and queens books, because I enjoyed this one but it just wasn’t anything special. I also don’t really think I’ll continue with this series.

“People really are like house with vast rooms and tiny windows. And maybe it’s a good thing, the way we never stop surprising each other.”

Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

5 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Yes! This book was brilliant, and I can’t wait to see the movie adaptation.

One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake

5 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Of course! This is the first ARC (advanced reader’s copy) that I’ve ever had the privilege to read, and I was so psyched! I fell in love with the Three Dark Crowns series, and I am so obsessed with this sequel! It comes out on September 19th, so you’ll just have to wait a little longer to hear more about the magical triplets.

Midnight Jewel by Richelle Mead

4 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Yes! The Glittering Court series can be read in any order, and I must say that I definitely enjoyed this second book than the first one. The plot is not as random and the steamy romance and pirates make for a great read.

“The moment you think you’re on top is the moment you’ve lost your passion.”

Tiny Pretty Things by Sona Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton

4 out of 5 stars

Recommend? Pretty Little Liars meets Dance Moms. Read it and love all the mystery, drama, and competition in the ballet world. There’s even a little romance! I’m looking forward to reading the sequel to this book, Shiny Broken Pieces, very soon.

“My heart hurt a little bit right then. It’s weird how when you’re in a relationship with someone you know every little detail about their day. And then one day you’re just not anymore, and you don’t know the little details or the big details. It’s cut off like a power outage.”

Kale, My Ex, and Other Things to Toss in a Blender by Lisa Greenwald

3 out of 5 stars

Recommend? I had been wanting a light summer read, and this definitely fit the bill. It was an easy read, had normal girl/boy drama in it, some random smoothie recipes, and overall was a pretty predictable story. I think I would have rather reread The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson – so read that instead of this!

“What if we all jumped out of our boxes and chewed up our stupid labels? Who would we discover?”

What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum

5 out of 5 stars

Recommend? It seems like I have been waiting forever since Buxbaum came out with Tell me Three Things and I fell in love with her writing. This book was so different than Tell me Three Things but it was just as good! Read it if you’re in the mood for a heartfelt story with major family tragedy and unique characters.
