Growing up in a suburban area, I was always envious of people who lived in cities. Something about the high rises, the community and always being around people, and the buzz just gave (and still does) me all of the *feels*. I suppose you could say I am a city girl at heart, or maybe I just want what I don’t have.
But upon coming to Kent for school, I never realized the value of the small town; the community of people, the small businesses, and the cute corner cafes. You don’t have to pay for overpriced meals, there are authentic coffee shops (not just Starbucks), and people know you by name.
At Kent I began to feel a little bit, well… at home.
What you get in Small town USA, that you can find in big cities but it’s a bit harder, is passion. These small business owners put their heart in soul into the service/product they provide.
If you ever get a chance to visit Kent, or if you happen to live in Kent or in the area, I recommend visiting firstly The Image Consultants. The Image Consultants is a hair salon tucked away in the downtown. It is one of the hidden treasures of Kent. It has the quality of a high-end salon, but the down to earth, friendly feel.
And if you mosey on up the street, you will find a coffee shop called Tree City. As you walk inside, you will be welcomed by a cozy fireplace, comfy furniture, and of course ALL of the coffee. J Not to mention they have delicious, homemade peanut butter sandwiches, and pastries that are definitely drool worthy. (confession: I am currently sitting in Tree City drinking my personal fav, the Nitro cold brew)
It may not be Chicago or NYC, but this small town has the character and cuteness to make even the most basic girl to say, “I Kent even”
